What is Learning Sectors?  

Learning Sectors is the Formula 1® programme aimed at schools around the world, currently implemented by the British Council. 

Learning Sectors, supported by Formula 1® is funded by Formula 1 and delivered by the British Council. Using Formula 1’s global platform, and the world-class engineering and innovation within motorsport, the programme will motivate children aged 7-16 years old in Brazil, China, India, Mexico, South Africa, Spain and the UK to engage with the prospect of STEM careers, and to further develop communication and oracy-based skills inspired by the range of STEM and communications-based careers at Formula 1.    

The programme aims to be inclusive of all young people with a particular focus on female students and  children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Through a blend of digital engagement and face-to-face events, the programme will inspire and encourage young people to develop their 21st century-skills, intercultural awareness, oracy & communication skills, and build aspirations for future careers in STEM, media and broadcasting as inspired by Formula 1.  

During the programme, schools will identify an issue in their community and work within teams to come up with a solution, using STEM skills to tackle a real-world challenge and make a positive change.

On July 3, an operational alliance agreement was signed with the Ministry of Public Education of the State of Hidalgo, to benefit 200 schools in the different municipalities of the state at the upper secondary level, through the Undersecretariat of Higher and Higher Secondary Education (SEMSyS). This agreement seeks that young people from Hidalgo develop soft skills in international contexts. 

Aligned with the New Mexican Educational Model (Nueva Escuela Mexicana), the programme has a strong emphasis on integrated and project-based learning, problem solving, critical thinking, collaborative work, linking to real-world challenges, and contextualized knowledge.  

Technology and innovation are key drivers of Formula 1®, thinking of it not as a sport, but as a competition development initiative aligned with educational priorities of the Secretary of State. Communication, argumentation, presentation of projects and collaborative work are incorporated; competencies that are sought to be strengthened in all the training fields of the students. 

  • Schools of higher secondary education in the state of Hidalgo, which belong to any of the 4 educational subsystems: COBAEH, CECYTEH, CONALEP, General Baccalaureate. 
  • Teachers at this educational level interested in continuing to develop and train in STEM methodology skills and take it to their classrooms. Teaming up with a group of participating students, to develop their project and present it at the end of the programme. 
  • Young people between 15 and 17 years old, enrolled in any of the 4 upper secondary education subsystems of the state of Hidalgo, interested in participating in projects that inspire and promote their future career in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). 

  • Register a team of 5 members per school composed of 2 girls, two boys and 1 teacher who will accompany throughout the training, and throughout the programme until the presentation of their final project. 
  • To form the teams, the young people must be regular students currently enrolled in the third semester of CONALEP; CECYTH, COBAEH or General Baccalaureate of the State of Hidalgo. 
  • Be 15 or 16 years old by December 31, 2026.  
  • Teachers can preferably be from the training field "Scientific Thinking", however, (it is not limited to teachers from other fields), who will be part of the team that presents their final project. 
  • Fill out the registration form: Register now , fill in and complete the fields and upload or attach the documents that are requested for it. You will find the annexes at the end of this call:

  • Letter of commitment signed by the principal of your campus to participate and complete the programme. 
  • Deadline for registration: September 30, 2026.

What are the benefits you get from participating in "Learning Sectors at full speed"? 

  • The participating teams will individually obtain both teachers and students, at the end of the programme, a certificate of participation in the programme.  
  • The top three teams will be invited to a Formula 1 Grand Prix, where they will enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime behind-the-scenes experience, be inspired by the world-class engineering on display, and explore the wide range of careers available in motorsport. 
  • The programme has no cost for the participant, their team or their teachers. 
  • The growth in experience of participating in projects at an international level. 
  • It will be a motivational and inspirational driver of pursuing a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. 
  • In addition, if you registered your team or your squad, you could participate individually, to "express your interest", in wanting to be a pioneer and be an "ambassador" of the programme, participating in the experience of the Formula 1, Grand Prix, 2026 edition, this October.
